AW3D at the major golf tournament, “The Open” through AR technology

Since 2013, NTT DATA has been supporting “The Open”, one of the four major golf tournaments and with the longest history and tradition among them, to enhance the presence of the NTT DATA brand in the global market.

This year, NTT DATA is providing a cutting-edge experience of viewing golf by 3D golf map. This is implemented by mainly two technologies. One is AW3D dataset, 0.5m Enhanced DSM and 30cm Ortho imagery. The other is AR technology with “Microsoft HoloLens” headset. The golf tournament information, such as each player’s records and carries, is overlaid with AW3D based golf map.
